I felt safe comfortable and relaxed at Will"s house. His dog and cat were sweet natured and friendly and Will and Hidi were kind, helpful and intelligent people. Will was a great cook. It did not take me long to find the public transport routes into and out of Merida and to go on day trips to the coast. It was also possible to go away for a night or two, to other areas of the Yucatan , using Will's place as a base.
It feels like a privilege to have new Mexican friends and I hope we will always be in touch.Host reply

The cooking was fantastic, the mother, Hidy, is a very kind person and a pleasure to talk to (even through the means of a translating app). However, the host himself, Will, I did not get along with. He disregards second-hand smoking health hazards, and smoked close to my room multiple times as it’s situated right next to the kitchen. When I told him the smell goes to my room even through a closed door because smells can travel through cracks, he accused me of lying. Speaks rudely when things do not go his way. Does not train his dog or feed him enough so the dog tends to not listen, constantly follow/lick you, or shoves his nose into your food while you’re eating at the table...
Due to these negative experiences, I’ve rated the home stay at 3 stars. If you’re able to overlook those aspects, the stay is otherwise okay for the price point as there are meals included.January 2019
Staying with Will, his mother Hidi (don't forget the H is silent in Spanish) and their dog Trino has been a tremendously positive experience. I was fortunate to have spent the entire holiday season with Will and his extended family, who accepted me wholeheartedly. Will, an excellent cook, has generously shared his extensive network of artists and accomplished artisans with me and as a published writer has, with great patience, helped me improve my Spanish. Will has also shared his extensive knowledge of the Yucatan and of the Mayan culture and acted as guide and interpreter on several excursions out of Merida into the Yucatan country side to visit ruins, cenotes, eco reserves and the sea. I can not speak highly enough of Will, his generous nature
and my experience in his home. It is why I travel and what I am seeking when I travel.
