About the Area
Pangangan Island is luckier than most small Philippine islands. It is easily accessible by land, thanks to a 3.5-km causeway that connects it to Calape in mainland Bohol. But it wasn’t always so. Community elders still speak of a time when, to get to the town proper of Calape, they had to walk about 4 km in the shallow waters that separate their island from the mainland (travel by boat is not possible except during high tide). Relief came when the causeway was completed in the 1950s and, for the first time, the residents of Pangangan enjoyed the convenience of road travel. It is the longest causeway in the Philippines.

• Please use earphones on radios etc. Keep chatter to whispers at night. Our walls are thin and noise travels too easily.

• Undercover parking is available for motorcycles. Other vehicles may be parked inside our gate, but be aware of the possibility of falling coconuts. Your risk.
• We run our house and garden on rainwater so please keep water use at a minimum. Short showers are appreciated – especially during dry times. Our tap water is fine for drinking.
• Enjoy our friendly lizards that sometimes make repeated loud “Chuck-oo” sounds. They eat bugs and mosquitoes.

Bill and his wife Pearlie are very nice... their home is beautiful and has amazing view. We got there and it was really hot and humid with no A/C which made it uncomfortable. They arranged a car touring the island which was a great experience and took us to the market (in a tricycle...)
Beautiful remote place.Host reply

We had a great time staying at Bill and Pearlie's for 4 days. Very gracious and welcoming couple, with a lovely house on the shore of Pangangan island. You can choose to hang out looking out over the sea or on the other side, looking over the forest (nice and cool in the day time). Bill is a great conversationalist and naturalist, and can take you out to show you the mangroves (and explain their role in the ecosystem) in his kayak. Pearlie is a great cook and foot reflexology therapist. Both enjoy a bit of karaoke in the evenings if guests are up for it. Our favorite part was our daily swim, when the high tide made it easy to get out there. Thanks so much Bill and Pearlie!
