We are John and Sharren and we have lived in central Portugal since November 2017. We started our life in Portugal as Workaway volunteers and have since hosted volunteers while we were renovating our property. We are both very sociable, enjoy company and chat and sharing meals with friends. We have explored our local area in detail and can give a lot of advice and guidance about where to go and what to do in the area. Between us, we have many interests, have travelled a lot and people find us both very easy to get along with. We both love cooking and can cater for most dietary requirements.
There is a basic free wifi provided by the church, but the location is not suitable for working online from home.
The area is rural, but with many local interesting places to visit and authentic village experiences awaiting you.
Your stay with us can be as sociable or as private as you wish.

About the Area
Caldeirinhas is a small, traditional Portuguese village in the remote, rugged mountains of the Beira Baixa region of.
The area lends itself to nature trails, hiking, cycling and bouldering.
The surrounding local villages of Bendada, Penalobo and Aguas Belas offer cafe facilities and a local shop in Bendada (5km away) provides most basic supplies. The larger towns of Sabugal and Belmonte are around 20km away,
There is a river beach at Penalobo and many beautiful and historic places to visit locally, most noteably, Sortelha Castle. We are approximately a 1 hour drive from the Serra de Estrela mountain range.

I throughly enjoyed my three nights and two days with Sharren and John, and their beautiful German shepherd Katan. The dinners were delicious (the steak pie was outstanding!), the conversation lively and engaging, and the wine free-flowing. Thank you, John, for showing me some amazing historic sights during our walks together. For me, the best thing about traveling is meeting people and making new friends, and I am delighted to count Sharren and John among them.
