Have been hosting overseas students since 1992! I live alone so have double guest bedroom available with two single beds for guests - all linen provided but it is preferable to both Host and Guests to bring/provide their own towels. However, Beach Towels will be provided. Guests have use of all facilities - their own cutlery, utensils, kitchen cupboards & fridge shelves. Sports facilities on site - sparkling pool, tennis and squash courts, billiards, table tennis, private gym, barbecue area on covered patio at clubhouse, mini-golf and outdoor chess. Plenty of parking for visitors available. In gated high-security complex as well as additional security gates & burglar bars. Children married and live away from home but when visit are interested in suggesting places of interest for guests and giving helpful safety tips during their stay. I am especially able to assist overseas guest and to assist guests about where to go and what to see and also help arrange trips and tours.
NB Bathroom is shared with single female host. in this case I am retired and avoid using the bathroom at the times it is required to be used by guests so in the mornings the bathroom is reserved for use of guests only. Also please note that there IS definitely WiFi available for use by guests and the TV with video and DVD player is in the Lounge area and not in the Guest Room as more comfortable in lounge. If you wish any further information please do not hesitate to ask any questions or any additional photographs or information.

House Rules

Emphasis on security - front door to be shut and locked during when exiting during day and front door and security gate to be locked upon entering at night. Expect students to treat this as their "home-from-home" and do my utmost to make their stay a very happy and pleasant one. A list of Rules is also provided on back of Guest Room door - a lot of emphasis is placed upon the dire need in SA for everybody to do their best to save electricity (of which there is a tremendous shortage) as well as water (of which there is also a tremendous shortage).

Smoking Rules

Your host smokes.

Smoking is allowed outdoors only.

I, Lisa and my friend, Katharina,
stayed at accommodation provided through Homestay.com by our host Muriel from but only
briefly having had to return to Germany to obtain extended Visas. We were so happy that we kept extending out stay from December 2016 until May 2017. Muriel herself is a warm and very friendly person with a good sense of humour and was always supportive whenever we were in need of help or for any information about Cape Town. We felt like we were living at home.

The location was ideal for us with train and bus stations being nearby so instead of hiring a car,
we made use of the train, which turned out to be cheap and reliable and easy to reach Cape Town City or in the other direction, the rest of the Southern Suburbs e.g. the surfer hotspot Muizenberg, easily and quite fast. Supermarkets, Banks & ATM´s and a variety of Take-Aways are within safe walking distance, too - appox.10 minutes. Our safety was assured at all times as setting is within a Security Complex. There is a refreshing pool with lounging chairs, several barbecue areas and extra facilities such as Tennis, Squash. Billiards, Table Tennis, 9-hole Mini Golf as well as a Private Gym, which all created the feeling of a holiday resort.

Generally the accommodation consists of bright airy rooms and a balcony from where we enjoyed stunning sunsets. The Guest Room is a double room with more than sufficient cupboard space and two very comfortable beds - all linen is provided and changed often. WiFi, TV with DVD Player is provided in the living room. We were encouraged to use all the facilities available - including laundry whenever necessary.

ALL our expectations were fulfilled and we were very pleased to have had the opportunity to enjoy living there for a wonderfully happy six months. We highly recommend Muriel's accommodation to anybody wishing to enjoy a memorable stay in Cape Town.

Dear Lisa and Katherina - Thank you very much for this Review. I had so very, very much pleasure in hosting you both and miss you such a lot. And glad that you enjoyed your stay as much as I did. Good luck with your studies and your future career in Social Studies. Kind regards. Muriel

It wasn't the first time, that I booked a homestay. But first time that I got, what I mean by homestay. If you want to experience the typical lifestyle and hospitality in Cape Town then by staying with Muriel, you are definitely in the right place. This is not a room in an anonymous hotel. Muriel shares her home with you and you live with her together during this time. She is very helpful and giving you any assistance needed about places to visit and how to ensure your safety at all times.

It was a great expirience for me. I enjoyed the time and the conversations with her very much.

By the way, contrary to the last Review, all facilities WERE available according to the offer (Wi-Fi, shared bathroom where I had exclusive use every morning, cabinet in Lounge with TV and also DVD facility).

Thanks for the fantastic time. I would book this accommodation again.

It was the worst experience of my life. We paid 34 nights and we had to leave the first week.
Lots of things were falses and dishonest (no private bathroom, no correct size of the twin room, no wifi, no TV, no radio). Lady didn't refund our money.

How do I book?

Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.

When do I pay?

You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.

When can I share my contact details?

Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
