The du Toit family has been farmers for six generations on the same farm Vlakkerug. We would love to share our heritage with you. Wooden floors, thick clay walls and wooden shutters lend warmth and character. Add to that the hospitality of Lize and Stephanus (owners) and their lovely staff who have lived on the farm for generations. There is much laughter in this house, rich in stories shared around the kitchen table. This is authentic life of a boer family in modern-day South-Africa. We farm with wheat and mutton merino, have a veggie garden, fruit orchard, and free range chickens. By prior arrangement and 2 days' notice, Lize would be happy to serve traditional dinners (extra fees apply). Also, contact Lize if you have small children that may need to sleep in the room with you.

About the Area

Our farm is located in the Riebeeck Valley. This area is known for wheat cultivation, vineyards, olive groves, sheep farming, and tourism. Our farm is a well-kept, traditional property with beautiful barns, a rustic orchard and veggie garden, and a chicken coup. You are welcome to freely walk around the farm, which is very safe. We have pristine views of the mountains and farmland. People escape from Cape Town and environment to our tranquil valley. The nearby town is well known for its variety of restaurants and coffee shops. We live about 8 km out of Riebeeck West, of which the last 4 km is a well-maintained gravel road.

House Rules

Due to our sons coming home on weekends, we are only available to host guests from Monday night through Friday morning. This is a working farm, and though we as the hosts love visiting with guests, we have a farm to tend to and have limited times during the day to visit. Guests are welcome to explore the farm and use the home on their own. There are farm vehicles in use and families should keep an eye on their children. We have friendly, working sheep dogs and 2 indoor cats. We expect guests to be kind to our animals and staff. You are welcome to smoke outside. If you arrange to have dinner with us, please know that we'll host no later than 10 pm. You may linger longer, but we need to be ready to work the next day.

Smoking Rules

Your host is a non-smoker.

Smoking is not allowed.

How do I book?

Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.

When do I pay?

Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.

When can I share my contact details?

Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
